Contemporary Interiors

Internal Developers (ID) was appointed by SGS Bateman to relocate its head office from Bryanston to Greenstone, Johannesburg. As part of the relocation, ID was appointed as the turnkey service provider to design and build the new corporate interior. ID, together with Broll Property Group Transaction management, has a long-standing relationship with Bateman’s umbrella company, the mining and minerals industry leader SGS, of which Bateman is the Engineering services division.

Real Estate Optimisation and Understated Elegance

ID was tasked to reduce Bateman’s previous office space usage of 4300sqm, to 4300sqm in the new space. By optimising the new hybrid model and the introduction of activity-based working, ID succeeded in effectively reducing the CRE space by XX percent.

Blue accents enhanced by timber give the interior space a soft ambience, which achieves a natural balance between interior and exterior. Clients are welcomed into a spacious reception where Bateman memorabilia and historical artefacts dating back to the 1870s, and trophies are displayed as art pieces in custom-made timber slats. These slats selectively screen the client-facing and open plan areas.

Shared Spaces

The new space is modern and light and presents different office spaces that are shared by the employees. Three acoustically-enveloped phonebooths provide privacy from the open plan environment and large open plan workstations accommodate on-hand drawings and filing specific to engineering work. The print room and pause area have been doubled up as a communal collaboration area effectively creating a multi-functional work space.

ID delivered the office fit-out within a tight four-week timeframe, which is especially notable because all construction needed to be undertaken after hours, so as not to disturb other tenants in the building.
